Balmain’s golden chain motif, originally inspired by France’s classic silkscarf motifs and materialized into singular 3-D ornaments and accessories on Olivier Rousteing’s most recent women’s runways, has quickly been adopted as a unique rebellion meets-heritage house signature. The designer has cleverly twisted and inverted symbols of upper-class exclusion, in order to flip the focus and offer a new sort of luxury - one which is surprisingly fresh and very much of today. “This is an array of designs that is now open to all, ”as Rousteing explains. “These boldly oversized new house codes reflect the inclusive values of today’s Balmain.”
